The Ford 9N (see 8N also up for auction) is a general-purpose utility tractor designed primarily for small to medium-scale farming and homesteading. It is one of the most famous tractors in history because it was the first to use the 3-point hitch system with automatic hydraulic draft control (invented by Harry Ferguson). This revolutionized farming because it allowed implements to be attached directly to the tractor, preventing it from flipping backward if a plow hit a heavy rock or root. PLOWING & TILLING: It was widely used to break up soil and prepare fields for planting using a 1- or 2-bottom plow. MOWING: It pulls brush hogs or finish mowers to clear tall weeds, maintain pastures, or cut hay.GRADING & SCRAPING: With a rear blade or box scraper, it is excellent for leveling dirt, maintaining gravel driveways, and scraping snow. LIFTING & TOWING: It pulls heavy wagons, logs, or trailers, and can be outfitted with rear boom poles to lift heavy objects. BELT-DRIVEN WORK: It has a rear Power Take-Off (PTO) and can be fitted with a belt pulley to power stationary farm equipment like cordwood saws, grain threshers, or feed grinders. Because it was lightweight (about 2,400 lbs) and highly maneuverable, it remains incredibly popular today for hobby farms, large gardens, and property maintenance.
